Hello, hope all is well with you.
Advent is nearly upon us and with it the weather if finally growing colder and wetter, no doubt, but with our Church roof here at Revesby repaired we are feeling a good deal happier facing the winter. It has been thanks to an amazing effort and generous response by the Church family, the surrounding Community and beyond that this has been achieved. We are planning to have a Service of thanksgiving early next year where you will all be welcomed and we hope you will join us in this celebration. Now after a month of remembering we look forward to Advent as we prepare not only our homes but our hearts to celebrate the day of Jesus Christ birth.
These 4 weeks of Advent help us to turn our thoughts to, as it says in Marks gospel chapter one verse three…………….
Prepare the way of the Lord. Make his straight his paths!
On the First Sunday of Advent which is often called stir up Sunday traditionally it is the time to make Christmas puddings. (Unless you’re like me and take the lazy option and go to the co-op) Not only is it time to stir up the ingredients it’s time to stir up our feelings about faith and think about what Christmas means.
In our world at present I can understand we feel overwhelmed not only with all that is presented to us on the television and social media but also in the inevitable struggles that come in our lives at some time or other. Having faith, I mean, believing, that there is a God, who cares for us and the world; does not bring immunity from the traumas and disasters of human life but it does offer hope in dark times. ‘God so loved the world he sent his son’………..
Christmas is about family, friendships and Community it’s a good time to reach out to those around us, spend time together even if it’s with that phone call you have been meaning to make.. Or why not go along to your local church to a Carol Service and celebrate Christmas with others. You will be sure to receive a warm welcome.
Christmas Services at Revesby:
23rd November 9.15 Christ the King. Holy Communion
14th of December 9.15 Morning worship.
18th December 6.30 pm Carol service followed by Christmas Refreshment’s
24th Christmas Eve 11.30pm Midnight Communion.
