Take a Moment-February 2026
‘TAKE A MOMENT’ February 2026
I hope you are all managing to keep warm and cheerful during these rather dreary days we have at the moment. Do you need a fresh start?
I have a picture on my wall depicting Jesus Christ the light of the world. He is stood with a lantern in his hand knocking on a big heavy door, (my door, your door) there is no door handle for him to open our door, the handle is on the inside because we have to open it! And let him in. This is what Lent is about. I can’t believe Lent is here again it doesn’t seem a year ago since we talked about lent. Lent is an important part the Christian year when we prepare our hearts for Easter and all it can mean for us.
Many see it today as a time to give up something deny yourselves . Others use it as a time to take stock and look at our lives in a critical way and make changes and this can be a positive thing to do. Yes Lent is a time looking at your life and maybe making changes. )Far better with in a spirit of reflection, rather than making ourselves depressed thinking only of the unchristian things we have done or said, or all the things we intended to do and didn’t. We could , and far better, submerge ( if that’s the right word) , ourselves in simply knowing God, the joy to be found in just seeking him and allowing his ways to influence our lives , choosing good and not evil, to listen to and think what is the right path .
Could we do this this during Lent? Can we travel along with Jesus so to speak, spend time reflecting on what, was going on in his life, choices made, especially through his time of trial and suffering all he went through and then, share resurrection, forgiveness and new beginnings in our lives. Can we reflect on who we are, why we are where we are and how we can best show Christ, his love and forgiveness to the world? We have 6 weeks of lent, of prayer and reflection, when we can prepare ourselves for new life and share in the Easter joy.
Even as nature around us is preparing to burst into life after the winter. Let’s not stay in the dark but let his light into our lives by drawing near to him in our prayer, letting him into our hearts. It will give lent a whole new meaning not only to us but to those around us and set us off on a new path.
Praying you receive every blessing in Lent.
Revd Kathy.
