This month’s sheep update has been a hard one to write, but here we go. July was an extremely busy month with a show nearly every weekend.

It started off with Ashby show which is one of our furthest away one day shows. It was extremely hot but we have now purchased fans and gazebos to battle the hot summers. The sheep did really well for me coming 3rd and 4th in most classes behind the national champion who took two in most classes.

Then we went to Heckington show. The Southdowns were against Suffolks, Ryelands, Dorsets and many others. It was nice to see some new Southdown exhibitors showing of the best of the breed. Revesby Dumbo got champion Southdown and also placed 2nd in a class of 12 ram lambs (top in the non mv section). Prescoed Harebell got pulled forward in the aged ewe class coming 6th out of 13. Revesby Angelica come 3rd out of 18 in the shearling class also (top of the non mv section). Revesby Arabella come 5th out of 18 in the shearling class and the Revesby ewe lambs come 4th and 6th out of 22 and where the highest in the non mv section.

Sadly a tragic accident happened with Revesby Dumbo and another ram which meant dumbos life was ended short the day before Revesby show. He was my favourite lamb and will never be forgotten. He loved every minute of his life and he will be greatly missed.

The following day was tough taking my two ewe lambs to Revesby show but the atmosphere and great friends was a great distraction. The show was a lovely atmosphere and we shall hopefully have more to take next year. One of my ewe lambs come third against some big lambs so I was really chuffed to finish the year on a positive. The rams are now in for tupping so fingers crossed for lots of new faces in the new year.
