Take a Moment- April 2025

‘Take a Moment’

Holy week and Easter are fast approaching and in our churches at this time we are focusing on Jesus’ journey through difficult times.

Jesus had a counter-cultural message to share during his life time, very much like we do now in a world growing away from the faith and traditions of our parents and grandparents. Many Christian traditions and values seeming irrelevant and have no meaning to so many.

Though, on Easter Sunday millions of Christians round the world will be celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ following his brutal death on Good Friday.

Jesus had been put to death by greedy, ruthless leaders and authorities, whose only fear was for their own position. They were against Jesus’ message of God’s love and forgiveness, as it was stirring up followers who had begun to believe in this man, this Jesus, the Christ and his message.

In our Churches and Cathedral on Easter day we will be singing hymns that speak of the triumph of his resurrection, Jesus bursting from the tomb and from all that held him fast, from all those that would have him gone from their lives, because he dared to challenge their cruel uncaring ways and man-made laws that kept the poor, sick, bound and helpless.

Many people will be seeing Easter as a much needed holiday (if they are lucky) and don’t realise that holiday comes from the word ‘Holy day’.

For Jesus growing up as a Jew, Saturday was the Sabbath a Holy day where work stopped and people rested. Our Christian tradition makes the day of Jesus resurrection the Sunday, the Holy day, a day to rest. Though sadly then and for some in society today , this was not their experience.

In Jesus days they also enjoyed other religious annual festivals, these formed the annual pattern for Holidays, many which we have nowadays following with the New Testament recording of events in the life of Jesus himself.

Some don’t associate their Easter holiday with the greatest of Holy days either because they reject the belief in the resurrection, or maybe because they just hadn’t realised the connection.

Some because they haven’t been told of the good news that, through believing in Jesus we have in through him promised forgiveness and unconditional love, it’s just there to be asked for.

From that moment, we receive new life, purpose hope, and joy and guidance going forward by his spirit showing us the right way.

The good news of Jesus Christ is for all people from every walk of life as it always was and always will be and he can make a different to someone’s life today.

By sharing  how we came to faith, telling our story, we can show others how he can changes lives,  his words in the bible are our guide to life, it’s all there and has been guiding  Christians for over 2000 years.

One of the most certain facts is that soon after the crucifixion, the disciples of Jesus were firmly convinced that he had risen from the dead, as he said he would. He would overcome death, and it was this, their belief, that was the seed that spread the Christian religion around the world.

Why not share your story today.

Wishing you a thoughtful, restful and Happy Easter
