Take a Moment-April 2026
Take a Moment April 2026
I trust you all have had a lovely Easter, the weather has been kind too and no doubt you who were able, have been out In your gardens.
It has been a busy time at St Lawrence’s we had a wonderful turn out for our Service of Thanksgiving for the roof restoration with some 60 people joining us. Thanks were expressed for all who had contributed in all kinds of way for the roofs completion. At the end of the service we all enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea.
Easter Sunday as we brought in the Easter light into the church at 9.15 our first service of the day. Again we had a good turn out to share this special time and, some hot cross buns!
The roof problem we have faced these past few years was a challenge and really we were facing a mountain to climb. But help came in so many ways not least by the answer our prayers.
I have found over the years sometimes the help, strength and reassurance comes in ways we don’t expect as the disciples found when they were traveling along the road in the days after Jesus crucifixion, when a stranger came alongside them and they talked about the events of the past days and of what had happened. He stayed awhile with them at their invitation, he took bread, broke it, blessed it and as he gave it to them- they recognised him, but he disappeared from their sight.
They spoke to each other about their meeting Jesus on their journey, and how their hearts had been warmed as he talked to them and explained the scriptures to them. At first they hadn’t recognised him.
What I think is wonderful is how this still happens today, something happens or is said to us and we say how strange that happened, just when I needed it! Or needed to hear it. A little bit of faith can takes us through any dark place and out the other side into the light. Just like Jesus emerging from the tomb, just like a heavy stone being rolled away.
Enjoy this lovely season of spring as everything around us fills with life.
If you would like to find the stories in the bible for yourselves they are:
Luke chapter 15 verses 11-32 The lost son (prodigal son) and The walk to Emmaus Luke chapter 24 verses 13-35
